Saturn’s Northern Hemisphere atmosphere and polar hexagon in 2013

Abstract

In 2013, two years after the dramatic events of the Great White Spot (GWS) which occurred in the northern hemisphere, amateur astronomers continued to follow the evolution of the “GWS zone” centered around 41 degrees planetographic on Saturn. In particular, they observed the dark oval created by the GWS. They also recovered a long-lived Saturn Electrostatic Discharge (SED) source and detected the hexagonal wave surrounding Saturn’s north pole.

Biography

Padma Yanamandra-Fisher is a Research Scientist at the Space Science Institute in Boulder, Colorado. Trevor Barry is based in Broken Hill. He completed his Grad Cert Sc with Swinburne University in 2005. His main interest is hi-resolution planetary imaging. He is currently working with several different professional research teams. He has had work published in peer reviewed journals Nature & Science. Has also co-authored work presented at various international conferences in Europe and the USA.
