Live Stream Solar Demonstration in Hydrogen-alpha

Abstract
A live video demonstration of the Sun in hydrogen-alpha through the Astronomical Society of Victoria’s 4″ Lunt solar telescope. Though monochrome, the video feed will show high contrast views of the chromosphere, including sunspots, filaments, prominences and granulation, both in context of the full solar disk, but also in close up. In the event of inclement weather, pre-recorded videos will be presented.
Biography
Dr Russ Cockman is a retired industrial chemist who has enjoyed a life-long passion for science. He has lectured chemistry at RMIT University, Melbourne and performed as an Observatory Guide at Melbourne Observatory. Astronomy has been a key interest, both as an observer, and photographer of all things astronomical. He has travelled widely to observe total solar eclipses, most memorably, to Chile in 2019. He joined the ASV in 2008, became Director of the Solar Section in 2013 and he admits to having learned an awful lot about the Sun during that time!
