Southern Binaries Programme: Application to the case of QZ Car

Abstract

In recent years a collaborative programme studying relatively neglected southern close binary systems has been underway, involving combined efforts of the MJUO (NZ) – particularly the Hercules spectrograph – new VSS multicolour photometry and theoretical modelling. The particular case of QZ Car shows up many of the issues.

Biography

Ed Budding is an Hon Research Fellow at Carter Observatory and School of Chemical and Physical Sciences, VUW, Wellington, and at Dept of Physics and Astronomy, Univ. Canterbury, Christchurch. He has been studying close binary systems for 40+ years.
