Bubbles in the early Universe

Abstract

The history of the Universe is written in the hydrogen atoms. After recombination (producing the CMB radiation), almost all of the hydrogen was in its neutral atomic form. Intense radiation from the first stars and galaxies which formed later reionised the hydrogen gas. This Epoch of Reionisation(EoR) was the last major phase change of our Universe, and influenced all subsequent galaxy formation and evolution. Unfortunately, EoR is one of the least constrained periods in cosmic history. Luckily, several upcoming facilities (SKA, JWST, etc) will be able to shed light on this exciting period of the Universe’s history. At the same time, we must have detailed models on hand to match the observations to extract the maximum amount of information. In this talk, we will go over the rich physics and also how we use supercomputers to run detailed simulations and models of this era.
