Lunar Occultations of Close Double Stars

Abstract

Video observations of lunar occultations of close double stars allow the determination of the separation and position angle of the pair. The method of observing and obtaining results will be described. A summary of some recent results and discoveries of new doubles along with their publication in the Journal of Double Star Observations will be presented.

Biography

Brian has been actively observing occultations since 1980 as a member of the Occultation Section of the RASNZ. From 1985 to 1996 he worked at the USNO Black Birch Astrometric station in New Zealand. Since 2007 he has been receiving observations of double star occultations from observers in a number of countries worldwide. The collation of these observations has resulted in a number of papers being published in the Journal of Double Star Observations.
