Abstract

Ian rescued a collection of film negatives from the UK Schmidt Film collection and in doing so found himself in possession of some fabulous plates. This lightbox presentation will show off these wonderful images.

Biography

Ian Lightbody has an extensive background as a science teacher with a keen interest and passion for astronomy and space science. Until recently, he was the Head of House at St John’s Anglican College (formerly Forest Lake College) in the south-western suburbs of Brisbane. He has led an active astronomy club, organised many astronomy tours and developed resources for astronomy education. Last year he organised the first Queensland Water Rocket Competition and he has twice taken students to represent Australia at the Asia-Pacific Water Rocket Competition (as part of ASRSAF). Ian has had a long involvement in The Scout Association; having been the Queensland Branch Commissioner for Youth Activities for 13 years and he was recently appointed as the General Manager of Scouts Queensland.
