Occultations with Digital Video Cameras

Abstract
Occultation observation using “old school” analogue video cameras has remained the standard method due to the rigour that format brings to the timing of events observed. The technology in the hands of amateur astronomers more widely however has moved on to digital formats where timing is more challenging. This talk looks at the challenges for digital observers to make scientifically useful observations using the now widely available technology and how these can be overcome.
Biography
Steve Kerr is the Director of the RASNZ Occultation Section which coordinates occultation observing and reporting across Australia and New Zealand while observing plenty of them himself from Rockhampton in central Queensland.
