Abstract

Astronomy 3.0 covers the history of citizen science from the earliest SETI and Skywatch FMO projects through to today’s cloud-based astronomy tools and internet connected telescopes. Peter Lake is a VSS and AAVSO member and facilitates the iTelescope.net partnership with Arizona University for Target Asteroids. Peter has used internet connected telescopes in the classroom with high-school students, assisted the VSS Junior Chapter, whilst doing his own asteroid and variable star contributions. A 1 hour session culminates in a live asteroid hunt (weather permitting) and demonstration of the tools of citizen science using iTelescope.net’s connected telescopes. Biography

Peter Lake is a Service and Support Manager in corporate IT, Amateur Astronomer, gifted tenor vocalist and public speaker. -32 years experience in Data networks and telecommunications -Member of AAVSO and VSS -In 2004 he recovered 2000 EV70 (162422) and holds preliminary designation on 2013 PJ40 -Owns and operates a 0.5m Planewave CDK with Fingerlakes PL11002M Class1 CCD -Is an affiliate of iTelescope.net -Author of popular astronomy blog AARTScope.blogspot.com Peter is a contributing co-author to two science papers: Long term variability and outburst activity of FS Aurigae: further evidence for a third body in the system, Neustroev 2011 Photometric observations and time transit variations (TTV) researches of extrasolar planets, Sokov, 2012
