Second National Convention of Amateur Astronomers, 1968

The second National Convention of Amateur Astronomers was held at various venues in Port Macquarie over Easter 1968 (April 12-14).

The convention was organised by members of the Port Macquarie Astronomical Association. The convention secretary was Mr J.N. Webb, assisted by Mr Fred Flowers.

Some observations:

  • It's interesting that several presentations were made by teenagers, including a visitor from Florida.
  • The convention was also attended by Dr Harley Wood, NSW Government Astronomer at the time, and Mr W.A.L. Forsyth, Deputy Director of the Deep Space Information Facility at Tidbinbilla.
  • There is no mention of the constitution.
  • There is no mention of how the event was funded.
