The Mercure Ballarat Hotel & Conference Centre has 4 star amenities and over 70 rooms available. More Accommodation close by can be found here and note the discounts offered by businesses giving the Ballarat Observatory support.

The facilities that are closeby the Mercure Ballarat don't require walking uphill to reach the venue. Sovereign Hill Lodge is downhill on the walk to Mercure Ballarat but it is not as steep a walk back as the Elsworth Street Road going back up to the Observatory.

TRANSPORT:

TRAINS from Southern Cross Railway Station travel to Ballarat, for bookings and timetables
go to VLINE JOURNEY PLANNER
You will need a Myki Card or ticket to travel on the Trains and Trams, available at Train Stations. If you have a Seniors Card, you can obtain a Seniors Myki Card.

For those that have not visited Ballarat for sometime, there is now another Station past Ballarat called Wendouree, and so Country Timetables at Southern Cross will list that as the end Station for the Journey.
Mercure Ballarat and Ballarat Observatory are 10 minutes from Ballarat Railway Station

The address for the Ballarat Observatory is 439 Cobden Street Mt Pleasant at the Magpie Street Entrance.

BUSES - Route 21 stops right in front of the Mercure Ballarat leaving from the Ballarat Railway Station
Route 23 stops within sight of the Ballarat Observatory just around the corner. Easter Holiday Timetables will be in operation.

A pickup and dropoff service will be arranged closer to the date for delegates convenience at a cost to be determined.
