Planning, Operation and Administration of Very Large Amateur Telescopes

Convenor: Barry Adcock, ASV

The round-table will be an open forum for discussion of problems pertaining to the private or society very large telescopes. The telescopes in question will be deemed large enough to necessitate permanent mounting. The discussion may include radio telescopes or other expensive equipment not normally found in the possession of a private individual.

The discussion will be directed to three particular problems.
  • Planning and design of the telescope including housing and location.

  • Operation of the telescope with reference to the observing programme. Is the telescope used for scientific observations or for recreation and public viewing?

  • A discussion of time sharing and payment for its use by individuals or groups is sought.
